I Almost Walked Away From the Fitness Industry

Aug 5, 2026 | Goals & Motivation, Lifestyle Change

Fitness industry burnout came closer to ending my career than I ever expected. In 2020, I almost walked away from the fitness industry completely. At the time, I was working at a national gym chain, managing multiple locations, turning around a struggling site, and helping our team achieve top rankings. From the outside, everything looked successful, but behind the scenes, the hours, pressure, and physical pain were taking a serious toll.

When Success Doesn’t Feel Like Success

The hours were long. Working more than 60 hours a week became normal, and the stress never really let up.

Physically, my body was starting to break down. My back issues continued to get worse, and pain became part of my daily routine. Some days I couldn’t stand for more than 30 minutes before my leg would begin to seize.

My energy was low, my focus was slipping, and the enjoyment I once had for the work was slowly disappearing.

Like many people in demanding careers, I kept pushing forward because that’s what I had always done. Work harder. Push through. Deal with it later.

Eventually, “later” arrived.

The Breaking Point That Changed Everything

There comes a point when your body asks for your attention, and ignoring those signals becomes increasingly difficult.

For me, that moment came when I realized I couldn’t continue living and working the way I was. I needed an approach that supported both my health and my future. So I made a decision that didn’t feel easy at the time.

I walked away.

The Space to Rethink Everything

When I stepped away, I didn’t have a perfectly mapped-out plan.

But I did have clarity.

If I was going to return to the fitness industry, I wanted to build something different. I wanted to create an environment where people felt supported, where progress wasn’t measured by volume or numbers alone, and where long-term success mattered more than short-term performance.

Over the years, I had watched too many people struggle in traditional gym environments. They wanted to improve their health, but they didn’t feel comfortable, supported, or confident enough to stay consistent.

That experience completely changed how I wanted to serve people.

Why I Built Lifestyle Performance Training Differently

When I relaunched Lifestyle Performance Training in 2021, I committed to building something intentional.

I wanted to create a coaching experience that focused on people first and met them where they were instead of expecting everyone to fit the same system.

I’ve learned that lasting progress comes from finding an approach that fits your lifestyle, your goals, and your individual needs. When people feel supported and understood, consistency becomes much easier to maintain.

That philosophy has shaped every part of Lifestyle Performance Training.

The Clients Who Remind Me Why This Matters

Now, when I look at what we’ve built, the things that matter most aren’t rankings or numbers.

They’re the people.

I think about Josh, who drives from Apache Junction every week because this is the first place where he’s felt comfortable enough to stay consistent.

I think about Tina, who shared that this was the first time she truly felt heard and that her goals genuinely mattered.

I think about Carrie, who walked through our doors feeling unsure of herself and now carries that confidence into every gym she enters.

Those moments remind me every day why this work matters.

What Fitness Industry Burnout Taught Me

Looking back, fitness industry burnout taught me lessons that reach far beyond my career.

Success is much more meaningful when it’s sustainable.

The right path is the one that fits your life, supports your health, and allows you to continue growing over time.

That perspective has shaped how I coach every client who walks through our doors.

Why This Matters for Your Health

A lot of people approach their health the same way I approached my career back then.

They work harder, add more to their schedule, and try to follow plans that demand more than their lifestyle can realistically support.

That approach may work for a while, but eventually energy fades, frustration builds, and progress slows because the plan no longer fits everyday life.

Healthy habits are much easier to maintain when your workouts, nutrition, and schedule work together instead of competing for your attention.

Building a Fitness Plan That Fits Your Life

The Transformation Takeaway

You don’t need to do things the way everyone else is doing them.

You don’t need to force yourself into a system that doesn’t work for you.

What you need is:

  • A plan that fits your life
  • An environment where you feel comfortable
  • Support that helps you keep going

Because when those pieces are in place, consistency becomes possible.

That’s exactly what Lifestyle Performance Training was built to provide.
